Is my 2008 imac too old to get the OS Sierra upgrade?

I'm trying to update my early 2008 imac to the new OS Sierra but a window with a notification that can not install the software in my computer showed up. I keep my mac up to date, currently the version installed is OS X
El Capitan 10.11.6

Is my mac too old to get this update?
